Globalization and the vast transportation network have made travel easier, turning any destination into a potential tourist destination. Sustainable tourism is a new way of traveling and a valuable alternative to classic tourist destinations, which favors the discovery of territories and aims to limit as much as possible the impact on the environment,
encouraging direct knowledge of new cultures, traditions, local communities, and naturalistic contexts of high interest. The role of tourism and culture in sustainable development and their transformative power have been widely recognized in recent years and their impact has been assessed and re-evaluated in many ways. The 2030 Agenda, endorsed and strongly supported by the EU, recognizes the active role of tourism in inclusive and sustainable economic growth. This paper aims to show the situation of Sustainable Development and Planning in the design and implementation of sustainable plans for the development of tourism. What is expected from the 2030 Agenda and the
challenges for Albania? What is the challenge for tourism in Albania? It is important to make tourists and communities aware of sustainable tourism practices and the importance of respecting the country›s environment and culture. It is therefore precisely this naturalistic spirit that must be preserved together with the sustainable approach to tourism development according to the objectives of the UN Agenda.
